Canada to face Brazil in Sunday's final

Canada will face Brazil in women's international soccer this Sunday 19 December 2010. The two sides will face each other in the championship final of the Torneio Internacional Cidade de São Paulo. The match kicks off at 17.00 local (14.00 ET / 11.00 PT).

Canada and Brazil have already met once in the group phase of this tournament. On Wednesday 15 December, Canada and Brazil played to a 0:0 draw. As it was the third match of the group phase and both teams had already qualified for the final, Canada played a young squad with much less experience than Brazil. Canada still came away with the result and finished first in the group.

For the championship final, Canada is expected to rotate back in some of its older, experienced players against Brazil.

"Brazil's system can be difficult to understand, but they play a form of man to man," said Canadian coach Carolina Morace. "They are tactically fantastic and very good with the ball on their feet."

Canada and Brazil share an all-time record of three wins, two draws and three losses against each other. Canada is currently ranked 9th on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's World Ranking while Brazil is ranked third. Brazil has been the runner-up at each of the last two major FIFA women's

tournaments: a silver medal behind USA at the 2008 Women's Olympic Football Tournament and a silver medal behind Germany at the FIFA Women's World Cup China 2007.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, is undefeated in nine matches (eight wins, one draw) and has already tied a team record with 13 wins this 2010 season (13-2-2). In November, Canada won a gold medal at the CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifier, thus qualifying for a fifth-consecutive FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011. Along with the team's preparations for 2011, the Canadian Soccer Association is a bidding nation for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015.
