WHITECAPS TRANSFER HABER TO ENGLAND'S WEST BROM

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that striker Marcus Haber has been transferred to English Football League Championship club West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed amount.

Following a successful rookie season with the Whitecaps in 2009, Haber impressed the West Midlands outfit during a four-day trial last November.

Last season with the ‘Caps, Haber scored eight goals and recorded four assists for 20 points in 30 United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) regular season matches.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound, native of Vancouver, BC, also added three goals in six playoff matches and one goal during the 2009 Nutrilite Canadian Championship. For his efforts, Haber - who turns 21 on January 11 - was named USL-1 Rookie of the Year, as well as the Whitecaps Newcomer of the Year and Fan Favourite.

Prior to joining the 'Caps, the Canadian youth international spent two seasons with the U-19 and reserve teams of Dutch Eredivisie club FC Groningen.

Haber will be joining a unique group that has played for both the Whitecaps and the Baggies during their respective careers. They include David Cross, Glen Johnson, Willie Johnston, and Carl Valentine.

Awesome news for Haber and Canadian soccer in general, West Brom is pushing for promotion, and next year we could have a successful canadian striker in the Premiership. Hopefully this will bring more scouts and attention to Canada, USL, and MLS.

Love the show!
